The first Dominican brand from Warped Cigars is heading to retailers today. Called Chinchalle, which is Cuban slang for “l(fā)ittle factory,” the new smokes are made at Tabacalera La Isla, the small, start-up cigar-rolling operation—or chinchalle—owned by Hostos Fernandez Quesada in the Dominican Republic.

The new Chinchalle comes in one size, a 5-inch-by-50-ring robusto, and is packaged in 25-count boxes. It consists of an Ecuador Havana 2000 wrapper, Dominican Havana Vuelta Arriba (HVA) binder and Dominican filler. They retail for $12.50 per cigar.?

Warped owner Kyle Gellis says that he plans on adding more sizes to his Chinchalle brand in the future.?

“The Dominican Republic has so many what I would call micro climates and micro soil pockets spread throughout the country's tobacco regions,” Gellis tells Cigar Aficionado. “Incredible how varietal taste spectrum can vastly differ from two farms that are only a few miles apart. It opened up the ability to blend in certain directions.”?

This wouldn’t be the first time that Gellis has worked with a small operation. Although most of his cigars are produced at Aganorsa Leaf in Nicaragua, some limited-production brands, such as La Colmena, are made at El Titan de Bronze, a small factory located in Miami’s Little Havana section.?
